November 6, 2009 - 3:03 pm No Comments

Many insomniacs, make mistakes by using sleeping medication. They might actually be better served, by looking at their sleeping environment. One factor that’s very important is your pillow and that’s where buckwheat pillows come in. Although buckwheat pillows have been used for a long time, they have many qualities that make them attractive for use today. They stay cool, they mold themselves to your head, and to top it all off, they’re a natural product not man-made. So as a buckwheat pillow right for you? Well, let’s find out.

First I said that buckwheat holes will take the shape of your head. Unlike goose feathers, polyester batting, or other materials used when making pillows, buckwheat holes do not compress. Instead, they slide out of the way of high pressure areas. In a nutshell, they realign themselves in the shape of your head. That’s important because this offers better support for your head, your shoulders, and most importantly your neck. With your head neck and shoulders better supported, you’ll wake up feeling better rested.

Buckwheat pillows, are also cooler, in terms of temperature, then other pillows. You see, goose down, cotton, polyester batting, all have tiny little air spaces that trap heat. Buckwheat pillows on the other hand do not create these tiny little spaces. Furthermore, buckwheat is a woody material and is not a good conductor of heat. Airflow between the hulls is also excellent.

Buckwheat is natural. It comes from the buckwheat plant in assets is not a man-made material. Usually when materials are made as a byproduct of petroleum production, there are many chemicals used during manufacture. Once the product is made, that product continues to give off gases, of the manufacturing process. More often than not, these gases are toxic and can make you sick. Not so with buckwheat. In fact, for even more natural product, some makers are producing wheat pillows that are organic.

If you’re planning on buying a buckwheat pillow, here’s some things to look for. Look for one that’s organic. Look for one that’s made in America. If you live in Europe, look for one made in your own country. This is important because we are all aware of the damage is being done to local economies by outsourcing. Finally you want to look for a pillow that is a high quality and well made item.

If you plan on watching your pillow, you’ll want to buy a pillow that has a zipper on the inner cover. If you don’t plan on watching your pillow, ew gross! You see, buckwheat cannot get wet. Doing so will ruin the pillow. That means that if you want to watch the pillow, you will need to take out the buckwheat shells. You’ll probably find when looking at cheaper made pillows this zipper will be absent.

The zipper also allows you to customize your pillow. What I mean, is that you can add or remove the shells to make the pillow firmer or softer. And that gives you a customized pillow and not just for you but for everyone in your family who is using one. Do you like aromatherapy? If you do then you might also try adding your favorite herbs or essential oils into the buckwheat. That way every time you go to sleep it’s like, and aroma therapy session.

In this article we looked at several advantages that buckwheat pillows have over other pillows. They do stay cool; they are very comfortable; they are customizable. Finally, buckwheat is a very sturdy material. If you buy a high-quality buckwheat pillow, you can be rest assured (no pun intended) that you be looking at many years of peaceful nights of sleep.

Buckwheat pillows are probably one of the most popular natural pillows in production today. In use for thousands of years, buckwheat has probably provided untold scores of people with many nights of excellent sleep. Don’t you think you owe it to yourself, to discover what these people have already learned.

Disregard Back Posture And Welcome Back Pain!

September 1, 2009 - 7:16 pm No Comments

Who can remember back to when they were kids and being told all about their Back Posture? I can certainly remember my parents telling me to sit up straight in my chair and to stop slouching. Sitting in my chair now after working all day takes my mind back to when I used to suffer from pain due to my bad Back Posture.

Whether we like to believe what our parents or teachers tell us, especially when we are young, sometimes they can be right on the money. Back Posture is an extremely important part of our lives and can either be the cause of a lot of back pain or be our salvation from back pain.

Good Back Posture really revolves around a few crucial things. Firstly you must stand up as straight and tall as you can. Breathe in and tuck your tummy in as well. You want to stand and walk normally though and not exaggerate the natural arch in your back. Try and walk with your eyes and chin level with the ground and push your chest out as well. However just make sure your stance is as natural as possible without any forced or over extended arch in your back.

Sleeping is not usually something we think of when we consider controlling our Back Posture. Yes you are right in thinking to yourself that there is not a lot you can do about your Back Posture when you are asleep. However you can most certainly do something about the bed you are sleeping in. Make sure you have a good firm mattress designed for good Back Posture and remember to compliment that with your pillows. Sleeping in a good posture position is just as important as everything else we do.

The final thing I want to touch on is your Back Posture when you are sitting. This can mean more to some people than others. Obviously if you work outside and dont sit down much of the day then your Back Posture when sitting is not such a big problem. However if you are sitting for long periods of time then you really need to consider your Back Posture a lot more when you are sitting.

Whilst sitting in a nice comfortable chair can be very nice indeed, it is highly unlikely when you are working that you can lay back in your chair and doze off. You will have to sit up to your desk and whether you are writing or using your computer you will more than likely be sitting in the one spot for many hours. You might try and sit with the correct Back Posture when you first sit down but lots of research has shown that sitting with the correct Back Posture unaided is almost impossible.

Using a kneeling chair or other purpose built ergonomic chair is the best way to ensure we are looking after our Back Posture when in a seated position. Good quality chairs are designed for this purpose with a back rest to lean back against, a kneeling pad for our shins to lean against and a seat that is sloping forward to take the weight off the lower back. Having the ability to adjust everything is also ideal as is the ability to gently rock back and forward whilst sitting to keep the body active.

Those of you who sit for long periods of time for whatever reason and who already suffer from back pain will find a good Back Posture Kneeling Chair to be extremely beneficial in both relieving and preventing back pain when sitting. You will be able to sit for longer periods of time without feeling any discomfort and will also find that good Back Posture in one of these chairs will aid in the recovery of backs already damaged from sitting incorrectly.

James is a person who didn’t listen to his parents when he was younger and as an writer found himself sitting for long periods in the one spot. Being free from back pain was only made possible when James found himself a good Posture Chair. Relief For Chronic Back Pain

May 29, 2009 - 2:46 am No Comments

Back pain can be a serious problem. Chronic or acute back pain is both extremely distressful and can be seriously debilitating. This article is going to explore the self help methods and treatments that you can use to achieve chronic back pain relief.

You may be comforted to know that most chronic back pain disorders have an excellent prognosis and are often relieved and cured within a short period of time. There are a number of simple things that you can try initially which may be of help. They include where possible, using over the counter painkiller and anti-inflammatory medications and temporary treatment with muscle relaxants. The application of cold compresses, for example a packet of frozen peas wrapped in a cloth and then applied to the appropriate area, followed by a warm compress, such as a hot water bottle, or even a hot shower is helpful to relax the back and help it heal itself.

Doing gentle exercise, such as swimming, walking and muscle stretches can be beneficial for chronic back pain relief. It is important that you should try not to let the pain divert you form performing your normal activities, as regular movement can help to stop the problem from immobilizing you. Regular light exercise is always a good idea, even under normal circumstances, but in the case of chronic back pain, it can substantially reduce the healing time.

Regular exercise is a first class remedy to chronic back pain. It has the advantage, by keeping the area mobile, or helping to prevent any latent immobility from setting in at a later time. But if the pain continues for more than a few days, it may be necessary to see your doctor for a further diagnosis. Standard medications such as Paracetomol can help and should not be overlooked, indeed they have a good record in longer term chronic back pain relief.

Drugs such Ibuprofen, which is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, are proven to reduce inflammation and pain. They should only be used for short periods however. Longer term use could cause stomach ulcers to form or encourage some other forms of stomach illness. COX 2 inflammatory inhibitors have mostly been withdrawn from the market because of concerns over reported links with cardiac disease. If you are considering going down this route, it is important that you consult with your doctor first. Muscle relaxants that can be bought over the drug store counter also have a god record of success, but their use should be limited and not allowed to become the norm for a recurring problem. It is the cause, not the effect that needs to be diagnosed and treated.

Certain complimentary treatments or therapies (such as the Alexander Technique) can help. These programs are a way of teaching you how to use your body muscles and joints correctly, including posture etc, to minimize any undue, unnatural and unnecessary stress being exerted. Also, acupuncture, while not a self help solution, can still be considered “natural” and has shown proven results and has many devotees.

Glucosamine Sulphate is an acknowledged treatment that has shown good results in back pain treatment, and regular daily dosages are widely recommended. Vitamin C is another natural remedy that is often helpful with back pain problems. It is know to support the growth of Collagen which is necessary for good spinal health and can offer chronic back pain relief.
